Mercedes-Benz has revealed an electric C-Class, signaling a sharper push into high-volume EVs with the brand’s long-running compact executive nameplate. The debut version, the C 400 4MATIC, is positioned as a performance-focused model with long-distance capability.

Mercedes says the car’s 94 kWh battery enables up to 762 km of driving range on a single charge under the WLTP test cycle. The company also claims DC fast charging can add up to 325 km of range in about 10 minutes, highlighting a focus on shorter stops on longer trips.

Efficiency and speed in one package

A key part of the range target is aerodynamics, with Mercedes quoting a drag coefficient of 0.22 for the new model. The exterior also introduces a distinctive illuminated grille treatment designed to visually separate the EV from combustion C-Class variants.

Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup rated at 489 horsepower, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds. Like some newer Mercedes EVs, it uses a two-speed transmission intended to balance strong launches with efficiency at higher motorway speeds.

Comfort tech borrowed from larger models

Mercedes is emphasizing refinement, including AIRMATIC air suspension that can adjust ride height and damping for comfort or efficiency. Rear-axle steering of up to 4.5 degrees is intended to improve maneuverability, with a quoted turning circle of 11.2 m.

Inside, the cabin can be optioned with the MBUX Hyperscreen, while standard models retain a digital driver display and a large central infotainment screen. Mercedes says its voice assistant can integrate conversational features, reflecting a broader industry move toward more natural in-car interactions.

More space, plus practical storage

The EV C-Class grows in size, with a 2 962 mm wheelbase that Mercedes says improves passenger legroom. A panoramic glass roof is offered, and the interior can be specified with materials positioned as vegan alternatives to leather.

For utility, Mercedes quotes a 470 l rear trunk and an additional 101 l front storage compartment for cables or smaller bags. The car is also rated to tow up to 1 800 kg, aiming to keep the C-Class relevant for buyers who expect everyday versatility.

Mercedes expects the C 400 4MATIC to arrive in the first half of 2027, with a rear-wheel-drive C 300+ planned later. Pricing has not been announced, but the specifications indicate Mercedes is betting that range, charging speed and premium comfort can still differentiate an electric sedan in a crowded market.
