Xgimi takes its foldable Elfin Flip projectors to crowdfunding in Japan, adding 4K and laser options

Xgimi has launched a crowdfunding campaign in Japan for two new compact home theater models, the Elfin Flip 4K and Elfin Flip Laser. The project is running on Makuake, positioning the devices as space-saving Google TV projectors aimed at apartments and smaller rooms.

Both models use a folding chassis that collapses into a slim, vertical shape, designed to fit on shelves when not in use. Xgimi says each projector delivers up to 1 600 ISO lumens and includes built-in 7 W Harman Kardon speakers for standalone playback.

Two models, different light engines

The Elfin Flip Laser pairs Nichia’s QuaLas RGB laser light source with a 0.23-inch DMD and a 1 920 x 1 080 resolution. The Elfin Flip 4K upgrades to a 0.39-inch DMD with 3 840 x 2 160 resolution while keeping the same overall foldable approach.

Xgimi is also highlighting wide-gamut color performance, citing 110% BT.2020 coverage. The company lists contrast at 10 000:1 for the Flip Laser and 20 000:1 for the Flip 4K, targeting movie viewing in controlled lighting.

Gaming and setup features diverge

Feature differences extend beyond resolution, with the Flip Laser offering digital zoom and a VRR gaming mode rated at 20 ms at 1080p and 60 Hz. The Flip 4K adds optical zoom and is advertised with a 1 ms mode at 1080p and 120 Hz, signaling a stronger gaming pitch.

Both projectors run Google TV and support wireless streaming, while HDMI connectivity allows use with PCs and game consoles. The projection module swivels up to 150 degrees, a design meant to simplify aiming without requiring a separate stand.

In Japan, Xgimi lists MSRPs of 206 800 yen for the Elfin Flip 4K and 139 800 yen for the Elfin Flip Laser. Early crowdfunding pricing is set lower, with discounts promoted for backers during the campaign’s initial period.
