BYD Seal 08 targets 1 000 km range with Blade Battery 2.0 and ultra-fast 800V charging

BYD has unveiled the Seal 08 at the Beijing Auto Show, positioning the large electric sedan as a new flagship built around longer range and much faster charging.

The model is part of BYD’s expanding Ocean line-up and is aimed at buyers cross-shopping premium EVs.

The headline claim is a driving range of more than 1 000 km on China’s CLTC test cycle, enabled by BYD’s second-generation LFP Blade Battery. Range figures typically drop on stricter cycles such as WLTP or EPA, but the specification still signals a major push to reduce range anxiety.

Fast charging claims raise expectations

BYD says the Seal 08 uses an 800V electrical architecture designed for megawatt-level charging, with a claim of adding about 400 km of CLTC range in five minutes. The company also cites a 10% to 70% top-up in roughly five minutes under ideal conditions.

Cold-weather charging performance is another key talking point, with BYD claiming charging from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes at -30°C. Real-world results will depend on charger capability, battery temperature management and charging curves, which BYD has not yet fully detailed.

Performance and chassis tech for a flagship

In top trim, BYD lists a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with 510 kW, while rear-wheel-drive versions are expected with lower outputs.

BYD also quotes a top speed of 240 km/h, underscoring that the Seal 08 is designed to compete on performance as well as efficiency.

The sedan is a full-size model at 5 150 mm long with a 3 030 mm wheelbase, and BYD says rear-wheel steering is included to improve maneuverability. It also features the DiSus-A air suspension system and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor intended to support BYD’s driver-assistance suite branded God’s Eye.

Launch timing and likely pricing

BYD has not confirmed pricing, but local estimates place the Seal 08 in the RMB 300 000 to 350 000 range, putting it in the upper mid-to-premium segment in China. The company has indicated a China launch in the second quarter of 2026.

International availability has not been announced, even as BYD continues to expand exports and overseas production plans. More clarity is expected closer to launch, particularly around charging infrastructure compatibility, final battery sizes and testing-cycle ranges outside China.
