Fresh renders shared by well-known leaker Ice Universe suggest Samsung’s next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold8, will tweak a detail many users notice every day: the cover-screen selfie camera cutout.

The images indicate a smaller punch-hole on the outer display, shrinking from the Galaxy Z Fold7’s reported 3.7 mm opening to about 2.5 mm on the Fold8, a reduction of roughly 32% by diameter.

A smaller cutout, not a hidden one

Notably, the leak points to Samsung sticking with a traditional punch-hole on the cover display rather than switching to an under-display camera there. That choice hints Samsung may still see conventional openings as the safer option for clearer selfies on the front screen.

Samsung has used under-display camera hardware on the inner display in recent Fold models, but image quality has typically lagged behind standard cameras.

The new renders suggest the company may be pursuing a middle ground: fewer visual distractions without compromising camera performance.

What it could mean for 2026 Unpacked?

If Samsung applies the same miniaturized approach beyond the cover screen, the internal display could also look cleaner, though the leak does not confirm any change to the inner camera system.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 is widely expected to arrive at Samsung’s mid-year Unpacked window in July or August 2026. Separate rumors have also mentioned a possible Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide variant, but details remain unconfirmed ahead of any official announcement.
