Samsung brings Galaxy S26 Document Scan upgrade to older phones with One UI 8.5, here is who gets it
Samsung is preparing to bring a camera-based Document Scan upgrade introduced with the Galaxy S26 series to several older Galaxy devices through One UI 8.5. The change is aimed at making quick scans more useful for work and school, without needing a separate scanning app.
The key improvement is that multiple document photos can be saved together as a single PDF, rather than as separate images. That small workflow change can make it easier to share, archive, or upload paperwork directly from the phone.
What the feature does differently?
Document Scan uses the stock Camera app to detect and capture documents, then processes them into a cleaner, scan-like result. With the updated version, users can compile a multi-page scan into one PDF file in the same flow.
Samsung is also adding a quicker way to reach the tool by allowing a Document Scan shortcut to be added to the apps screen. The option is found in the Camera settings under Scan, then Document Scan, where users can enable Add Document Scan to Apps screen.
Eligible models and what to watch
According to reporting on the rollout plans, the feature is expected on the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25 Edge, Galaxy Z Fold7, and Galaxy Z Flip7 once they receive the stable One UI 8.5 update. Availability may vary by region and carrier timing.
More Galaxy phones are expected to be eligible for One UI 8.5, but it is not yet confirmed whether every supported model will also receive the Document Scan PDF upgrade. As with many Samsung camera features, some functions can be limited by device-specific camera software or processing capabilities.
