Garmin beta 22.23 adds LiveTrack auto-start on select smartwatches, plus new Approach CT1 sensor support

Garmin is rolling out beta software version 22.23 to several recent multisport smartwatches, expanding tools tied to LiveTrack and adding compatibility for a new golf accessory.

The update is available to testers through the on-watch Check for Updates menu.

The beta applies to the Fenix 8 AMOLED and Fenix 8 Solar, as well as Enduro 3, Fenix E, and the Tactix 8 AMOLED and Tactix 8 Solar models. It continues Garmin’s 22.xx test cycle that began earlier in April.

LiveTrack gets a smarter switch

The headline addition is a new LiveTrack option that can automatically enable location sharing for selected activity types. LiveTrack is part of the Garmin Connect ecosystem and is designed to let friends or family follow a workout in real time.

By allowing LiveTrack to turn on based on the activity chosen, Garmin aims to reduce the chance of users forgetting to start sharing on runs, rides, or other sessions. The feature is especially relevant for outdoor training where safety check-ins matter.

Golf sensor support and bug fixes

Garmin also says beta 22.23 adds support for Approach CT1 club sensors, which can help golfers track shots. The release additionally targets responsiveness improvements for the timer tool.

Beyond new features, the beta includes fixes affecting Garmin Coach workouts, multisport sessions, and climbing and bouldering activity profiles. Garmin also lists a correction for an issue that could cause missing turn arrows during course navigation.

Beta limitations still apply

As with many Garmin beta releases, certain regulated features are disabled while testing is underway, including ECG and Dive functions on applicable devices. Garmin also notes the beta is not intended for a Fenix 8 Pro model.

Users enrolled in the beta program can install the update directly from the watch by navigating to Menu, then System, then Software Update, and selecting Check for Updates. Garmin typically follows beta cycles with a broader stable release once testing is complete.
