Samsung unveils Odyssey G8 G80HF: A 27-inch 5K gaming monitor that switches to 360 Hz in QHD
Samsung has expanded its Odyssey lineup with the Odyssey G8 (G80HF), a 27-inch gaming monitor built around a 5 120 x 2 880 5K IPS panel.
The model targets players and creators who want high pixel density without moving to a larger screen.
In its native mode, the monitor runs at 5K with a 180 Hz refresh rate, pairing sharp visuals with fast motion handling. Samsung also includes a Dual Mode setting that drops resolution to 2 560 x 1 440 to unlock a higher 360 Hz refresh rate.
Dual-mode approach for PC gamers
Samsung lists a 1 ms gray-to-gray response time, along with support for AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible. That combination is designed to reduce tearing and stutter across both refresh-rate modes, depending on the game and hardware.
On the connectivity side, the Odyssey G8 offers two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 2.1 connection, which can be useful for high-bandwidth PCs. USB connectivity is limited to USB 3.2 Type-A and USB Type-B, and there is no USB-C port for single-cable laptop setups.
Pricing and availability details
For HDR, Samsung rates the display at up to 350 nits of brightness and does not include Mini LED local dimming, which may limit contrast impact compared with pricier HDR-focused panels. The company is positioning the monitor more around speed and resolution flexibility than premium HDR performance.
In Germany, Samsung has listed the Odyssey G8 (G80HF) at €709, with shipments expected to begin from May 22 for early orders. Samsung has not yet confirmed timing or pricing for additional regions.
