Huawei MatePad Mini 2 leak hints at OLED bezels, 5G and a bigger battery
Early details of what appears to be the Huawei MatePad Mini 2 have surfaced online, pointing to a new compact tablet that could move closer to flagship territory.
The information comes from a leak shared on Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station.
While Huawei has not confirmed the product name, the timing and positioning suggest a successor to the MatePad Mini introduced in 2025. That model later expanded beyond China, helping Huawei re-enter the smaller-tablet conversation.
What the latest leak claims?
According to the post, Huawei is testing an OLED display with very narrow, symmetrical bezels on all sides. The leak also points to a next-generation 9-series chipset and mentions that a 5G variant is under consideration.
One of the most notable claims is a significantly larger battery being trialed in prototype units, which would address a common compromise in compact tablets. The tipster also suggests Huawei is evaluating NFC support, a feature that can enable quick pairing and payments where supported.
How it could improve on Mini?
The first MatePad Mini combined an 8.8-inch OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and it was powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9010 5G. It also stood out with a 6 400 mAh battery and 66 W fast charging, strong figures for a smaller slate.
Other hardware on the current generation includes high-resolution cameras, HarmonyOS, and features that vary by region, such as satellite messaging in China. If the leak proves accurate, the MatePad Mini 2 could focus on meaningful upgrades rather than a minor refresh.
What to watch next?
No launch date, pricing, or finalized specifications have been confirmed, and prototype testing does not guarantee all features will reach production. Still, the combination of OLED design tweaks, a larger battery, and possible 5G could make Huawei’s next compact tablet one to watch in 2026.
