Huawei Mate XT2 leak hints at October launch: a tougher tri-fold hinge and bigger 6 000 mAh battery
Huawei is expected to refresh its tri-fold smartphone lineup later this year, according to a new leak circulating on Weibo.
The company introduced the Mate XT in September 2024 and drew attention by pushing foldables beyond the typical single hinge.
The latest report, attributed to Weibo tipster Hyperdimensional Realm, claims Huawei is targeting an October window for the next model, widely referred to as the Mate XT2.
Huawei has not confirmed a launch date, and specifications should be treated as tentative until official announcements.
Hinge upgrades take center stage
The leak suggests the Mate XT2 will focus on hinge and screen refinements, including improved durability and a reduced display crease.
Creasing and long-term hinge wear remain key concerns for foldable buyers, especially as designs add more moving parts.
A separate earlier rumor also pointed to the use of advanced ultra-flexible glass, a material approach the industry has been steadily improving to balance scratch resistance with repeated bending. If accurate, the combination could be aimed at making tri-fold hardware feel less fragile in everyday use.
New Kirin chip and camera claims
On performance, the report claims Huawei will use a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, continuing the company’s reliance on its Kirin platform in recent flagship devices.
Any real-world gains will likely depend on power efficiency as much as peak speed, given the demands of large foldable displays.
For imaging, the leak points to a triple rear camera setup similar to other recent Huawei foldables, led by a 50 MP main sensor, plus a 50 MP periscope telephoto and a 40 MP ultra-wide. The battery is tipped to rise to 6 000 mAh, up from the Mate XT’s 5 600 mAh, which could help offset higher screen-on time.
