Honor MagicPad 3 Pro 12.3 debuts with 165Hz OLED display and slimmer design, but there is one key trade-off

Honor has launched the MagicPad 3 Pro 12.3 in China, adding a more compact option alongside its larger 13.3-inch sibling. The new model targets users who want a lighter, thinner tablet without stepping down from flagship-class performance.

The MagicPad 3 Pro 12.3 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, positioning it near the top of the Android tablet market. That chip sits below the higher-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 used in the larger MagicPad 3 Pro, marking the first notable compromise.

OLED and 165Hz take center stage

Honor’s biggest upgrade is the display: a 12.3-inch OLED panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and a claimed peak brightness of up to 3 000 nits. Honor also highlights slim 3.9 mm bezels and eye-comfort features including 5 280Hz PWM dimming.

The tablet is also designed with gaming in mind, with Honor promoting graphics enhancements such as super-resolution. Combined with the fast refresh rate, the OLED panel is positioned as the main reason to pick the 12.3-inch model over the larger IPS-equipped variant.

Thinner body, smaller battery

To reach its slimmer build, Honor reduced battery capacity to 10 100 mAh, compared with 12 450 mAh on the 13.3-inch model. The company says the new tablet is 4.8 mm thick and weighs about 450 g, down from 5.8 mm and 595 g.

Honor is also pitching productivity features, including a dedicated PC mode, external display output support, and a keyboard folio accessory. The goal is to make the MagicPad 3 Pro 12.3 usable as a lightweight work device in addition to entertainment.

Pricing and availability outlook

In China, the MagicPad 3 Pro 12.3 starts at CNY 3 999 for an 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. A higher-end 16GB and 512GB version is priced at CNY 5 699.

Honor has not confirmed an international rollout for this exact model, but it already sells the MagicPad 4 globally with closely related hardware. One cited difference is a lower peak brightness figure on the international version, at up to 2 400 nits.
