Smart Concept #2 signals a smaller EV comeback, with 400 km range and fast charging in a city-sized package

Smart has unveiled the Concept #2, a compact electric car that points to a return to the brand’s city-focused roots after the Fortwo ended production.

The design is led by Mercedes-Benz, while the underlying engineering reflects the brand’s joint structure with Geely.

While it keeps the familiar short-nose, wheels-at-the-corners stance, Smart says the Concept #2 is a more grown-up take on the classic two-seat idea.

At 2 792 mm long, it is notably larger than earlier Smart models, aimed at improving comfort and everyday usability.

Range, charging and practical tech

Smart says the Concept #2 is built on its Electric Compact Architecture and targets up to 400 km of range on China’s CLTC test cycle.

That headline figure suggests a major step up from earlier two-seat Smarts, even allowing for differences between test standards.

Charging performance is also positioned as a key upgrade, with a claimed 10% to 80% top-up in under 20 minutes. The concept also supports vehicle-to-load, allowing the battery to power external devices when parked.

Design cues and what comes next

The Concept #2 features styling details that may be toned down for production, including lighting that incorporates the #2 motif and strap-like door pulls.

Smart is pitching the car as premium despite its small footprint, and says the two-seat layout helps free up cabin space.

Smart has not yet published full technical specifications or interior images, but has confirmed that the production model will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October. A European and UK launch is expected to come first, reflecting Smart’s current market focus.
