2027 BMW 7 Series refresh brings Neue Klasse tech and a NACS charging switch to the i7

BMW’s 2027 7 Series refresh signals where the brand is heading as it prepares the Neue Klasse generation, bringing a new electronics and software backbone to its flagship sedan. The update spans design, cabin tech and EV charging, with the i7 positioned as the main showcase.

While the overall silhouette remains familiar, BMW has reworked the front end with a wider grille treatment and slimmer upper lighting elements, alongside revised bumper-integrated headlamps. At the rear, the company has also updated the light signature and badging details to distinguish the refreshed model.

More screens, plus driver monitoring

Inside, BMW expands its display-heavy approach with Panoramic Vision, projecting key information across the lower portion of the windshield. A large central touchscreen remains the hub, and a dedicated front passenger display is added, aimed at media and infotainment use.

To reduce distraction, a driver-monitoring camera can dim the passenger screen when it detects the driver looking across at it. Rear passengers keep BMW’s Theatre Screen concept, now paired with updated touch controls and connectivity features designed to make it feel more like a large tablet interface.

i7 gets NACS and faster charging

On the electric side, BMW says the i7 moves to the NACS port used across much of Tesla’s charging ecosystem, aligning with the industry’s broader shift in North America. The refreshed i7 also supports DC fast charging up to 250 kW, with BMW citing a 10% to 80% charge in about 28 minutes under suitable conditions.

BMW attributes part of the upgrade to new cylindrical battery cells and a usable capacity listed at 112.5 kWh, alongside efficiency gains. Performance ranges from dual-motor variants to the i7 M70 xDrive, while combustion 740 models continue for buyers not ready to switch.

Under the skin, BMW also introduces a zonal wiring architecture designed to cut cable length and reduce weight, a move increasingly common as vehicles add computing power. Production is scheduled to begin in July 2026 in Germany, with European deliveries expected first and other markets to follow.
