Tesla Robotaxi app lands on Android: what riders can control on the go

Tesla has released its Robotaxi ride-hailing app for Android, months after debuting the iOS version. The app is now listed on Google Play, signaling a broader push to make Tesla’s Robotaxi service easier to access for more smartphone users.

The Android app is designed for requesting rides where Tesla’s Robotaxi network is operating and for managing key in-car settings during a trip.

Riders can adjust climate controls, seat positioning, and music playback, while also monitoring route progress and updating a drop-off point mid-ride.

Where the Robotaxi service runs?

Tesla’s Robotaxi availability remains limited, with service concentrated in parts of Texas, including Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Coverage areas in Dallas and Houston are reported to be small, underscoring that the rollout is still tightly geofenced.

In Austin, Tesla’s fleet includes roughly 40 vehicles, with only a portion operating without a human in the front seat. Others still use a human safety monitor, highlighting the mix of operating modes as Tesla scales real-world deployments.

Payments and oversight still vary

On Android, riders can pay through Google Pay, matching expectations for a modern ride-hailing app. The app also includes options to change plans during a trip, including asking the vehicle to pull over.

Separately, Tesla’s Bay Area presence differs from Texas because the company does not hold an autonomous driving deployment license in California.

As a result, vehicles there operate with a driver supervising the system rather than running fully driverless rides.
