Red Dead Redemption gets a PS5 physical release in May, and the price undercuts the digital version

Rockstar Games has confirmed a physical PS5 edition of Red Dead Redemption, bringing the open-world western back to store shelves on May 4 with a US list price of $30.

The release follows a period in which the game was available to PlayStation players primarily as a digital purchase on modern hardware.

The original Red Dead Redemption launched in 2010 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, later becoming a defining title of that console generation. Its return in a boxed format is likely to appeal to collectors and disc-first players as publishers continue to lean toward digital-only releases.

What the PS5 edition includes?

On PS5, the game is set to support 4K output and 60 fps, alongside HDR for compatible displays. Rockstar has also included support for importing save files from the PS4 version, allowing returning players to carry progress forward.

The package includes the base game and Undead Nightmare, the standalone expansion that reimagines the frontier as a zombie outbreak.

That add-on has long been regarded as one of the more substantial single-player expansions of its era, mixing survival elements with the game’s signature open-world structure.

Retail leaks preceded the announcement

In the run-up to the reveal, listings from retailers helped fuel speculation about a PS5 disc release and its timing. Amazon’s pre-order page later added weight to those reports, including product imagery consistent with a standard PS5 case.

Pricing has drawn attention as well, with US listings showing the physical edition at $29.99, in some cases below the digital price. Regional pricing has varied in leaks, with some European listings pointing to €34.99.

Fans still want an RDR2 patch

The announcement has also revived long-running community calls for a current-generation update for Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite its 2018 release and continued popularity, the sequel has not received an official PS5 and Xbox Series performance patch comparable to other major cross-generation titles.

With Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto already on the horizon, the PS5 physical edition of Red Dead Redemption stands out as a smaller but notable preservation-friendly move.

For many players, the bigger question is whether the studio will apply similar modernization efforts across the rest of the Red Dead catalog.
