New Xbox Game Pass Starter leak hints at 58 launch games and a mid-May rollout
A fresh leak is fueling new speculation that Microsoft is preparing an Xbox Game Pass Starter plan, a lower-cost tier said to arrive in select markets.
The report claims the package will ship with a sizable library on day one, aiming to broaden Game Pass beyond its current Core, Standard and Ultimate options.
The information was shared by Dealabs contributor billbil-kun, a leaker with a track record of accurately posting upcoming game announcements and subscription details. Microsoft has not confirmed the Starter tier, the game list, or a launch date.
What the leaked Starter tier includes?
According to the leak, the Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition would launch with 58 games available immediately. The lineup spans Microsoft-owned franchises and popular third-party titles, suggesting a curated catalog rather than full parity with higher Game Pass tiers.
The leaked list includes games such as Doom Eternal, Fallout 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Gears 5, Hades, Stardew Valley, Control, Tunic and Vampire Survivors. It also points to some editions and platform-specific entries, including a Windows 10 listing for Psychonauts.
How it may differ from Game Pass?
One notable claim is that Starter could include a small number of titles not available through Xbox Game Pass Core, which replaced Xbox Live Gold and focuses on online multiplayer plus a rotating set of games. The leak specifically highlights Doom 64 and Psychonauts (Windows 10) as examples.
That positioning would fit a middle ground: a cheaper entry than the broad catalogs offered by Standard or Ultimate, while still feeling more game-focused than Core. However, pricing, cloud access, and platform coverage remain unclear until Microsoft details the plan.
When an announcement could happen?
The leaker estimates a launch by mid-May, leaving room for an earlier formal reveal if the rollout is imminent. The timing also follows Microsoft’s recent push to spotlight day-one Game Pass additions, reinforcing how central subscriptions remain to Xbox’s strategy.
Until Microsoft confirms specifics, the Starter Edition name, the 58-game roster, and the release window should be treated as unverified. Even so, the breadth of the rumored catalog offers an early look at what a budget Game Pass tier could prioritize.
