Zeekr 8X launches with 900V fast charging and 1 380 hp: why Geely thinks it can sell overseas
Zeekr has launched the new 8X in China, positioning the large SUV as a high-performance, tech-heavy option aimed at premium buyers.
The Geely-owned brand says the model is part of a broader push that will extend beyond its home market.
Geely Automobile Group CEO Gan Jiayue has indicated Zeekr plans to begin overseas shipments of the 8X and the larger 9X as early as the third quarter of 2026.
The timeline suggests Zeekr is preparing for a more direct fight with established global players in the large electrified SUV segment.
Pricing targets China’s luxury SUV fight
The Zeekr 8X starts at RMB 329 800 under a limited-time launch offer, with higher trims reaching RMB 473 800. That pricing places it among a crowded field of premium Chinese SUVs where buyers expect both performance and high-end cabin features.
The 8X rides on Zeekr’s 900V Haohan-S architecture, a key selling point for charging and power delivery. Zeekr is offering multiple configurations, including a tri-motor range-topping version paired with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
Performance and charging take center stage
Zeekr says the flagship Yao Ying variant delivers 1 030 kW, around 1 380 hp, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.96 seconds. Dual-motor versions are rated at 660 kW with a claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds.
Battery specs include a 70 kWh pack and support for 6C fast charging, with a claimed 20% to 80% charge in about 9 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful charger. Zeekr lists a combined range of up to 1 416 km and an electric-only range of up to 410 km under Chinese testing standards.
Cabin tech and assisted driving hardware
The SUV’s size underscores its flagship intent, measuring 5 100 mm long with a 3 069 mm wheelbase. Design cues include split headlights and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor intended to support assisted driving and automated parking features.
Inside, Zeekr emphasizes a lounge-like rear seat experience on higher trims, with reclining seats and leg supports, plus multiple displays for front and rear passengers. The company also claims up to 2 200 liters of cargo space with the seats folded.
For computing, Zeekr says the 8X uses dual Nvidia Drive Thor-U processors delivering 1 400 TOPS, alongside adaptive air suspension for ride comfort.
If overseas plans stay on schedule, the 8X will test whether its mix of extreme performance and fast-charging hardware translates into sustained demand outside China.
