Fitbit could be headed for a Google Health rebrand as Premium listings quietly change

Fitbit still carries strong brand recognition in the wearables market, even as Google has increasingly folded its health and fitness features into the broader Pixel ecosystem.

New app store references are now fueling speculation that Google may be preparing to shift Fitbit services under a Google Health name.

In recent days, users spotted mentions of Google Health Premium tied to purchases and subscriptions in some European Google Play Store listings. Similar wording also appeared in iOS in-app purchase entries, suggesting the naming may be part of a wider cross-platform update rather than a one-off error.

What the Premium renaming suggests?

Early indications point to a rebrand of Fitbit Premium rather than an immediate shutdown of Fitbit hardware. The subscription prices shown in the listings matched existing Fitbit Premium tiers, implying a rename that keeps the underlying plan structure intact.

The surfaced entries were later removed or changed, which has added to the sense that the rollout may have been premature. Google has not announced changes to the Fitbit brand, and there is no confirmation that the company plans to retire the name.

Fitbit hardware may remain for now

Separate reporting also points to at least one upcoming tracker carrying Fitbit in the product name, a sign the branding could stay on devices even if the software umbrella changes. That approach would mirror Google’s past pattern of consolidating services while keeping consumer-facing hardware names longer.

For now, the most plausible outcome is a gradual shift in health and fitness services toward Google Health branding, while Fitbit continues to exist as a device line. Any broader merger would likely come with migration details for accounts, data access, and ongoing Premium subscriptions.
