Xiaomi previews YU7 GT: 989 hp SUV hints at German-tuned ambitions ahead of full reveal
Xiaomi has teased key performance figures for the upcoming YU7 GT, the high-performance variant of its YU7 SUV. The company says a full unveiling is planned for next month, following the YU7’s debut as Xiaomi expands its young electric vehicle line-up.
At an event in China, Xiaomi indicated the YU7 GT will deliver 1 003 PS, or about 989 hp, placing it firmly in the top tier of high-output electric SUVs.
The numbers suggest Xiaomi is positioning the GT as a halo-style model meant to showcase engineering credibility, not just value.
What the early numbers reveal?
According to the teaser details, the YU7 GT is targeting a top speed of 300 km/h. Xiaomi also cited a maximum range figure of 705 km under China’s CLTC test cycle, which typically reads higher than WLTP or EPA ratings used in other markets.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the YU7 GT is the company’s first vehicle to receive deep involvement from its European R&D center. He added that the goal was a precise driving dynamic with a German-tuned feel, a clear attempt to link the model to established performance benchmarks.
European focus, longer-term timeline
The GT naming itself appears aimed at a more global, performance-oriented identity, aligning with terminology widely used by European brands.
Xiaomi has already signaled that it intends to bring its vehicles to Europe later this decade, with public comments pointing to 2027 as a key milestone.
For now, Xiaomi is using carefully selected metrics to build anticipation ahead of the full YU7 GT reveal. The remaining questions include pricing, drivetrain details, and how those China-cycle range claims translate to real-world driving and international testing standards.
