vivo Y500s launches with a 7,200mAh battery as Y600 Pro hints at a 10,200mAh leap
vivo has introduced the Y500s, a new budget-to-midrange 5G phone built around an unusually large 7 200mAh battery and 44W wired charging.
The launch comes as the company also teases the upcoming vivo Y600 Pro, which is expected to push capacity even further.
The Y500s uses a single-cell battery rated at about 28.23Wh, with vivo highlighting endurance figures such as nearly 24 hours of video playback and around 15.5 hours of navigation. The company also says the battery is designed to charge safely in temperatures from -20°C to 40°C.
Big battery meets basic display
On the front, the Y500s features a 6.75-inch LCD with a 720 x 1 570 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, paired with an 8MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, a 4nm chipset with integrated 5G.
For photography, vivo equips the Y500s with a 50MP main rear camera, a notable step up from some entry-level alternatives that still ship with lower-resolution sensors. The phone also includes a side-mounted fingerprint reader and stereo speakers with a water-ejection cleaning mode.
IP68 and IP69 durability focus
vivo says the Y500s carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, aiming at buyers who want stronger water and dust protection in an affordable device. Color options include Obsidian Black, Galaxy Silver, and Phoenix Gold, with pricing in China starting at CNY 1 800 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Alongside the launch, vivo has previewed the Y600 Pro, promising a massive 10 200mAh battery, plus IP68 and IP69 protection and a 50MP camera. Certification details and company teasers suggest 80W fast charging, with a fuller announcement expected imminently.
