Redmi K100 leak hints at a flagship-level starting price as Xiaomi’s sub-flagship strategy shifts
Xiaomi’s next Redmi K-series phone, widely expected to be the Redmi K100, is being tipped for a notable price jump in China as the line moves closer to flagship territory.
A new report circulating on Weibo suggests the base model could start around CNY 4 000, up sharply from the previous generation’s entry pricing.
The claim comes from tipster Digital Chat Station, who indicated that an upcoming sub-flagship model could adopt Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. If that configuration lands in the standard K100, it would mark a break from the usual pattern of reserving the newest silicon for higher-tier variants.
What the leak suggests?
In recent Redmi K cycles, the base model typically used the prior generation’s flagship chip while Pro or Max models debuted the latest platform.
The leaked pricing would therefore align with the idea that Xiaomi is pushing higher-cost components into the entry K model, narrowing the gap with its premium Xiaomi-numbered flagships.
The report also arrives as broader industry pricing pressure continues to build, driven by memory costs and advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
Higher-end chips, larger RAM configurations and new battery materials have increasingly raised bills of materials, making aggressive midrange pricing harder to sustain.
Why Xiaomi may raise prices?
China’s smartphone market has seen selective price increases from multiple brands in recent cycles, with vendors citing component inflation and supply constraints for cutting-edge parts. A Redmi K100 starting near CNY 4 000 would position the series as less of a value outlier and more of a mainstream performance flagship.
For now, Xiaomi has not confirmed the Redmi K100 name, its specifications, or pricing, and leaks can change ahead of launch. Still, the rumor points to a clear direction: Redmi’s sub-flagship formula may be getting more expensive as it chases top-tier performance.
