Trump Condemns Russia’s Drone Assault as ‘Disgusting’—Promises Tariffs, Even If They Don’t Work

President Donald Trump fiercely condemned Russia’s recent aerial assault on Ukrainian cities, calling it “disgusting” and pledging to impose new sanctions on Moscow. “I don’t know whether [the sanctions] will do anything, but we will do it,” he said.

Responding to questions about an attack involving more than 300 drones, Trump described the violence as “horrible” and reiterated that this was “Biden’s war,” not his. “But I said if I get in there, I’ll do my best to stop it.” He also criticized past U.S. involvement in conflicts, dismissing them as “stupid” and insisting that America should have stayed out.

During a ceremony to reinstate presidential fitness tests in schools, Trump affirmed his support for sanctions targeting Russia—even as he admitted uncertainty over their effectiveness. “I know more than anyone about sanctions, tariffs, and everything else… I don’t know if Putin cares about them, but we’re going to do it,” he declared.

On the humanitarian front, Trump addressed the escalating crisis in Gaza. His Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is set to visit the region and then travel to Russia—though Trump offered no further details. While Trump did not fully label Israeli actions as genocide, he termed the situation “terrible” and voiced concern over widespread hunger among Palestinians. He suggested that the approximately $60 million allocated to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation may not be reaching those in need.

President Trump’s remarks underscore continued frustration over the violence in Ukraine and Gaza and reflect ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of U.S. foreign aid and diplomacy.
