Russian forces launched a wave of overnight attacks across Ukraine, striking multiple regions and causing civilian casualties and widespread damage. The city of Dnipro was among the hardest hit—at least two people were killed and five others were injured during the assault. Local authorities confirmed that a high-rise building was struck and caught fire, with emergency services battling flames in a nearby shopping center and industrial facility. Several cars parked in the area also burned.
Dnipro’s mayor, Borys Filatov, urged residents to avoid upper floors during bombardments and take shelter in underground parking areas if available. He acknowledged that the city lacks sufficient shelters to protect everyone.
Kharkiv was also under heavy fire, enduring several hours of bombardment that left five people injured, including three emergency responders. Fires broke out, and multiple buildings sustained damage. Mayor Ihor Terekhov condemned the attacks, stating that Russia was deliberately targeting rescue teams and accusing Moscow of engaging in acts of terrorism.
Explosions were reported in other cities, including Zaporizhzhia, where a residential building and agricultural warehouse were damaged. Ukrainian air defenses reported intercepting some of the drones and missiles, but noted that Russia launched a total of 208 drones and 27 missiles overnight. These attacks involved a combination of air-dropped bombs, ballistic missiles, and Shahed drones.
According to Russian authorities, Ukraine also conducted retaliatory strikes, with the governor of Rostov confirming that two people were killed on Russian territory.
In response to the escalation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement via social media, warning that such attacks would not go unanswered. He emphasized that Ukraine’s long-range drones would deliver a response directly to Russian military infrastructure, logistics centers, and airfields.
“Russia’s war will now hit back at them with real consequences,” Zelensky wrote. He praised the precision of Ukrainian drone strikes and the swift response of emergency services, and extended condolences to the families of those who were killed.
