The Turkish military has officially revealed its first hypersonic ballistic missile, the Tayfun Block-4, and according to its developers, it outperforms Russian counterparts in several key areas.

The missile made its debut at the IDEF 2025 defense expo in Istanbul, where it was presented as the latest addition to Turkey’s arsenal. The Tayfun Block-4 weighs over 7 tons, stretches approximately 10 meters in length, and has a diameter of 938 mm.

According to Roketsan—the company behind the missile—Tayfun Block-4 can reach a range of up to 3,000 kilometers, traveling at nearly 6,000 km/h (approx. Mach 5). Its precision is said to be within 5 meters. It carries a multi-functional warhead capable of targeting command centers, military hangars, and air defense systems.

A New Generation of Turkish Firepower

The Tayfun Block-4 was not the only cutting-edge system on display. Roketsan also showcased other advanced weaponry that will soon be delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces. This included the Atmaca anti-ship missile, Gokbora air-to-air missiles, and the 300 ER, a ballistic missile that can be launched from the air.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) is now one of the largest military powers in Europe, with an estimated 850,000 personnel—making it the continent’s largest standing army and the second largest in NATO.

Turkey’s military arsenal also includes around 3,000 tanks, 2,800 infantry fighting vehicles, approximately 400 helicopters, and hundreds of F-16s and F-4 Phantom fighter jets. The addition of Tayfun Block-4 signals Turkey’s intent to further modernize and assert itself in the strategic missile space.
