Honor’s Next Smartphone Could Be a Battery Life Beast in Disguise

3 Min Read

A long-awaited change in the smartphone industry might finally be around the corner. For years, users have complained that their phone batteries rarely last until the end of the day—especially those who use their phones heavily for work, gaming, video streaming, or photography.

Until now, the trade-off has been clear: either settle for a thicker phone with a large-capacity battery or rely on fast charging as a compromise. That may soon change—and this time, it’s not just speculation. Concrete developments are underway.

Chinese tech company Honor has already launched several smartphones this year with significantly bigger batteries. Earlier, the company introduced the Honor Power with an 8,000 mAh battery, and more recently, the X70 model with an 8,300 mAh battery hit the market.

Now, sources in China report that Honor is preparing to release a smartphone with a 10,000 mAh battery—potentially as early as the first half of next year. Even more impressive, the upcoming device is expected to retain a relatively slim profile at just 8.5 mm thick.

Bigger Batteries, Slimmer Designs

One of the main reasons manufacturers have avoided massive batteries is the impact on phone design. A thick phone is often seen as bulky and less attractive both visually and ergonomically. But newer technologies, particularly batteries made with silicon carbide, are beginning to shift those limitations.

These newer batteries offer much higher capacity without adding bulk—changing the game for phone manufacturers trying to balance performance with style.

Honor is not alone in this push. Xiaomi is reportedly working on a model called the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro, which is also expected to feature a battery exceeding 8,000 mAh. And that’s just the beginning. Some manufacturers are already testing prototype devices with batteries that push beyond the 10,000 mAh mark.

Up until now, such extreme battery sizes were usually limited to rugged smartphones—devices designed for durability over style. But with this new wave of innovation, long-lasting batteries might finally become mainstream, without sacrificing aesthetics.
